Nutritional quality of butter depends on whatever the quality of milk it derived from, except, it is congealed mass of fat from milk.
So it will definitely make you fatter, if you eat it even in moderate amount in daily basis. It is also made out of saturated fat and does not have essential fatty acids.
Animal fats tend to accumulate heavy metal and other pollutant from environment, so it is much better to eat saturated fat made from vegetable oils. Margarine is not made out of saturated fat, but made out of transfat, which is far worse then saturated fat. Saturated fat are fully hydrogenated, so body recognize its molecular structure so body handle it accordingly. However, transfat is artificial molecule which body thinks it is something else, but has effect twice as bad as saturated fat.
